Terry Robinson

Former LUSU President and AALU Director Inducted into NWO Sports Hall of Fame

Terry Robinson, HBK '97, and former LUSU President and Alumni Association Director, is being inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in the Athlete category for his outstanding career in track and field. Terry is currently wheeling across Ontario in support of Autism Spectrum Disorders.  Terry's Trek is a 2,897 km trek across Ontario to raise awareness about this all-to-common disorder. Read more

 

Liam Parsons

Lakehead Graduate Rows Way to Olympic Medal

Alongside his team members, 2003 Faculty of Forestry and the Forest Environment graduate Liam Parsons received an Olympic bronze medal for his third place finish in the Men's Lightweight Sculls race on Sunday, August 17. Lakehead Grad Sets Up Flour Operation in Thunder Bay

If one farmer‘s plans grow just right, the city‘s bakers will be able to buy locally milled flour in time for Thanksgiving‘s apple pies. Jeff Burke, (HBEnvironmental Sciences 2007) a 23-year-old who grew up on a dairy farm but never expected to follow his parents into farming, is building the city‘s only flour mill. Read more

For most high school students, a spare period is a welcome break from the demands of regular classroom activity.  A chance to take a breather, get caught up on assignments or perhaps hang out with friends.  But for Liz Murray, the circumstances that came together to create a spare in her Grade 10 morning class schedule at Port Arthur Collegiate Institute High school put her on a path that would impact  her career choices and ultimately, her life. Jim Veltman

Grad, Jim Veltman, to Play Last Pro Lacrosse Game on April 26th

CP - TORONTO — Jim Veltman is about to play his last National Lacrosse League game and accolades are pouring in. The 42-year-old captain of the Toronto Rock has been on eight championship NLL teams. "He is a tremendous leader and I think it's because he's a man of great integrity," says Derek Keenan. "There is nothing fake about Jim Veltman.  All Lakehead alumni are encouraged to come out and support Jim on his retirement from a tremednous career! Read more

Teaching Grad to Fight Aids in Africa

Education grad, Kristen Godin, will be seeing a lot of sand this summer, but it won’t be at the beach. Currently enrolled in the medical program at the University of Ottawa, Godin will take a two-day flight to Tanzania in June where she’ll work in an HIV hospital. Read more

Say the name Mike Wehrstedt and Lakehead fans will think of timely goals; like two OT winners against York in the 2007 playoffs.  Other will think non-stop hustle and 100% effort while some will remember his ferocious slap shot.  Others will remember a player who was a leader both on and off the ice and always made a point of representing Lakehead hockey at many events in the community. Catherine Taddo

Engineering Grad Builds Music Career

Catherine Taddo graduated from Lakehead's civil engineering program in 1997 and has since received her professional engineering licence.  However, engineering isn't Catherine's only love.  Music is a major part of her life these days as she continues to expand her professional career.

Described by music industry people as one who possesses a rich and powerful voice, the future looks bright for this aspiring grad.
