2011 Alumni Awards Dinner
The Lakehead University Alumni Awards Dinner will take place on Wednesday, May 25th, 2011 in recognition of five outstanding Lakehead University graduates. These individuals have been selected for their significant accomplishments and achievements in various areas since graduation.
The Alumni Honour Award was established in 1988 and is presented by the Alumni Association of Lakehead University to general members, as defined in the constitution of the Association, "who have demonstrated distinction or outstanding achievement in areas including public service, business, humanities, research, science and technology and the arts".
This year’s recipients of the Alumni Honour Awards are:
- Steve Ashton, MA Manitoba Provincial Cabinet Minister
- David Shannon, BA Human Rights Activist and Lawyer
This year’s recipient of the Alumni Volunteer of The Year Award is:
- Vonnie Cheng, BSC, HBA, GDIPB Investment Advisor and Dedicated Alumni Volunteer
The Outstanding Young Alumni Award was established in 2004 and is presented in recognition of a graduate from the last ten years who is 35 years of age or younger, and who has achieved significant accomplishments since graduation, either in his/her profession, sport or community service. Those chosen will be an alumnus whose reputation, achievements or future potential will bring honour and prestige to the Alumni Association of Lakehead University.
This year’s recipients of the Outstanding Young Alumni Award are:
- Shy-Anne Hovorka HBMUS, BED Singer, Songwriter and Musician
- Michael Power, BA Vice President, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre
The Awards Dinner will take place on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in the Lakehead University Faculty Lounge. The symposium is at 6:00pm and dinner will be served at 6:30pm. Tickets are $75 per person , or tables of eight are available. There is a cash bar.
