The Lakehead University Aboriginal Alumni Chapter hosted an event in the Faculty Lounge on June 16th. This free event was an opportunity for Lakehead aboriginal alumni to reconnect with friends and classmates. The Chapter event brought out a pleasant audience of about 20 people, where light refreshments were enjoyed.

Alumni Association President, Bill Keeler, and Manager of Alumni Relations, Richard Longtin, were also in attendance. The evening celebrated three inspiring alumni: professor and writer, Patricia D. McGuire; artist, Alice Sabourin; and musician, Donna Simon. These women share a lot in common; they are passionate about their culture as well as their creative, scholarly work and they continue to make an impact on their communities.

Aboriginal Outreach/Recruitment Officer, Yolanda Wanakamik was pleased with the success of this event.  Yolanda shares, “We would love to host a welcome dinner for new and returning students.  We also hope to have an evening where we have an exposition of Aboriginal Alumni work independently and or in the community…”. We would like to send a great big thank you to Yolanda, for organizing the Aboriginal Chapter’s first event, and to all those who attended. Meegwetch!
