Allan Vinni
Allan Vinni (BA '86 ECON) is a small town man with a big heart. He has carried this spirit of generosity through his years as a student, later as a young professional and now as a respected lawyer with an established practice.
Born in Geraldton, Ontario his travels have taken him throughout Canada to Fort McMurray, Alberta. For a man who enjoyed life in Northwestern Ontario, the opportunity to pursue his education in the region was key to his success.
Allan always wanted to be an economist and thoroughly enjoyed his classes at Lakehead. After graduating in 1986 with his degree in Economics, Allan decided to turn his attention to law and completed his degree at the University of Windsor.
Now with his own successful law practice in Fort McMurray Allan is more focused than ever on giving back to the communities that he is a part of. For years he has supported the Lakehead community as a loyal monthly donor, ensuring that current and future students do not have to struggle financially.
No stranger to Thunder Bay, Allan visits his parents (dad Arvo is a graduate of Lakehead College of Arts, Science and Technology) and other family in the area when time permits. He has coordinated several trips back to allow him to volunteer with the Alumni Association as a Marshall at Convocation. Allan has enjoyed the experience stating, "It’s a great opportunity to see these young graduates from the same program mark the conclusion of all their hard work".
Allan is also eyeing Lakehead’s bid for a law school with interest and feels that it will be a tremendous opportunity. For a man who firmly believes that rural communities are currently underserviced, a law school at Lakehead, "will lead to more lawyers locating into smaller centres. The benefits from this will be countless", says Vinni.
