Bill Keeler BA '98
Bill Keeler is a resident of Thunder Bay since 1980. He and his wife Lucille have three children: one son Cory residing inThunder Bay(Lakehead Alumni), and two daughters Andrea (Lakehead Alumni) inAlbertaand Kelly inSaskatchewan. He is also a proud grandfather of five grandchildren.
Bill is a graduate ofLakehead University(BA ’98). He held the position of Athletic Facilities Supervisor for the C. J. Sanders Field house for 28 years retiring May 1, 2009.
He has served on numerous committees throughout the University such as Health & Safety, Alumni Association Golf, and the Campus Long Range Planning Committee. He has been a member of committees for: four (4) National Women’s Basketball Championships, three National Wrestling Championships held atLakeheadUniversity. In 2002, Bill chaired the Committee for the Canadian Inter-University Sports Wrestling Championships.
He is a past member of the Thunder Bay Sports Bid Committee (Sports City Bid Committee). The purpose of this committee was to develop ways to market and attract sporting events to the City ofThunder Bay, thus increasing tourism which would create more revenue and raise the city’s profile nationally and internationally.
Bill was the recipient of the 2009 Ontario University Association (OUA) J.P. Loosemore Award given to individuals in recognition of major contributions through administrative work within University sport.
He has been a member of the Thunder Bay Country Club for 16 years and served on its Board of Directors - one of those years as the President. Bill is a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Veterans Association having been a member of the police force prior to moving toThunder Bay.
He was re-elected to the Board of Directors of the Lakehead University Alumni Association and Co-chaired the 25th Anniversary Golf Tournament for the Alumni Association where the goal was to raise ”25,000 for 25 years.” Since that time he has annually worked on the committee and seen the tournament expand to “Sell Out” years of participation. This past year over $50,000.00 was raised towards scholarships forLakeheadUniversity students.
The past two years (2010-2012) he was the President of the Lakehead University Alumni Association and was privileged enough to participate in the Convocation Exercises on both the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses. The university now has 50,000 Alumni and Bill looks forward to working with new Alumni President Rob Jamieson and the board to further develop opportunities to help our students and alumni.
