The path that took me to Lakehead University was more diminutive than most.  Previous to being hired at Lakehead University in 1981, I was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police predominately stationed in Western Canada, and continue as a member of the RCMP Veteran Association.  Subsequently, I was the Athletics Facilities Supervisor for twenty-seven years at the C. J. Sanders Fieldhouse. It was during my employment that I had the extreme pleasure and opportunity of working with numerous students and was able to communicate and interact with them first hand.  I became aware of what was important to them during their educational stay. Two of our three children are Lakehead University Alumni, and perhaps it was their thirst for learning that inspired me to complete a General Bachelor of Arts Degree. Thus, I really learned what university student life was all about. This interaction I believe without a doubt aided me in my career with the Department of Athletics.  Through working with colleagues, and other Canadian associates, I was honoured with the Ontario University Association (OUA) J. P. Loosemore Award in 2009. This Award is given to individuals in recognition of major contributions through administrative work within University sport; this honour was a highlight of my career at Lakehead University since it was chosen by my peers.

I retired from Lakehead University April 30, 2009 and my involvement with the Alumni Association became more challenging, even though it advertently had begun a number of years ago.  I also served on various committees throughout the City of Thunder Bay and Lakehead University.  The growth of our institution at the Thunder Bay Campus has been exhilarating.  Currently, our innovative Orillia Campus has helped to develop more possibilities for Lakehead University.  Our Alumni Association is committed to assist and promote our university students and Alumni, whenever and wherever possible.

I look forward to the upcoming year as your Alumni Board President and work with other board members to meet the challenges ahead.
