Brian Holm (BSc ’74; BAdmin ’97) passed away in Thunder Bay this past March at the age of 61.  A lifelong learner who believed strongly in the value of education, Brian continued to support his alma mater long after graduation.

Brian joined the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association in 2000 and stepped down in early 2009 due to declining health.  During that time he served as the AALU President from 2003-2004, was a proud financial supporter of the ATAC campaign, and volunteered for numerous events including the Alumni Golf Tournament held each year in Thunder Bay.  It was his deep ties to the University and the lifelong friendships he forged with classmates from his years at Lakehead that inspired his wife, Petra Kapush (HBComm ’81; MSc ’04), to establish a scholarship in Brian’s memory.

The Brian Holm Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in perpetuity to a student enrolled in the Faculty of Business Administration or the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies, who has financial need, holds a minimum 80% average and has demonstrated community involvement.  This award will ensure that future Lakehead University students become part of Brian’s legacy.

A memorial donation is a thoughtful way to give a meaningful gift in honour of a loved one and a touching way to recognize their memory.  You too can make a charitable donation to the Brian Holm Memorial Scholarship by clicking here.  Or, consider establishing your own memorial award in honour of someone special.
