The Office of Alumni Relations wishes to extend our congratulations to this year’s class of 2011. In total, about 2,600 degrees were given out at this year’s ceremonies at the Thunder Bay and Orillia campus. We are proud of our Lakehead University graduates as they step into the next chapter of their lives. Additionally, we would like to thank all of the volunteers who took the time to assist with marshalling, organizing the graduates, and selling flowers and merchandise.  We are glad to have dedicated volunteers help celebrate this milestone event, and look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

This year’s Convocation kept our volunteers busy, with four ceremonies that took place in Thunder Bay. The morning ceremony at Port Arthur Collegiate Institute on Friday, May 27th featured guest speaker Dr. Louis Francescuitti who addressed the graduates from the Faculty of Medicine. The afternoon ceremony was held at The Thunder Bay Community Auditorium; Honorary Doctor of Science was conferred upon Dr. Tom Brzustowski, and he addressed graduates of the Faculties of Business Administration, Engineering, Natural Resources Management, and Social Sciences and Humanities, as they received their degrees.

On Saturday, May 28th, Faculty of Education graduates were celebrated. An address was given by The Honourable William G. Davis. The closing ceremony saw graduates from the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences and Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies receive their degrees.

The following week, over 300 graduates received their degrees at the Orillia Campus on Saturday, June 4th, at the Rotary Place in the West Orillia Sports Complex. The Alumni Association President, Bill Keeler toured the new building on campus and had a glimpse of the residence building that is being built with fall as the expected completion time.

Overall, degree frames and merchandise sales were quite successful and we thank everyone who viewed our products and made purchases.
