Message from the Office of Alumni Relations
Warm, beautiful weather has finally arrived and with it comes the Summer 2011 Ezine. In this edition of Ezine you will find a range of information aimed towards keeping all Lakehead alumni informed and up-to-date. Interesting alumni profiles, current events and projects, programs and services – it is all here for you to explore. As the Lakehead community applauds another year of driven graduates, we are looking forward to the upcoming school semesters and the new faces and opportunities they welcome.

While team registration has filled, hole sponsorship opportunities are still available for the 28th Annual RBC Alumni Scholarship Golf Classic. Your organization will be able to advertise to over 150 prominent business members at our tournament which is held on Tuesday, August 9th.

Head Start is a two day early Orientation for 2011 undergraduate Lakehead students and their family and friends on July 8th and 9th, 2011 at the Thunder Bay campus. This program provides students with the chance to visit the campus before Fall Orientation and get a “head start” on university life.

Alumni Association President, Bill Keeler, and Board Member, Diane Thompson, attended the 2011 Annual Student Juried and Major Studio Exhibitions on Friday, March 11, at The Thunder Bay Art Gallery and selected visual artist Luke Nicol’s drawing, titled “Canoeing” for this year’s alumni art purchase.

A group of Lakehead University engineering students are taking what they have learned in the classroom and giving it an exciting real-world application, by designing and building a plug-in hybrid race car for international competition.

On June 9, 2011, a SHIFT networking event took place at the Avila Centre. SHIFT (formerly the Thunder Bay Young Professionals Network) is Thunder Bay’s home for young-minded professionals who wish to cultivate social and professional networks and engage themselves in the community.

The Office of Alumni Relations wishes to extend our congratulations to this year’s class of 2011. In total, about 2,600 degrees were given out at this year’s ceremonies at the Thunder Bay and Orillia campus. We are proud of our Lakehead University graduates as they step into the next chapter of their lives.
