Thunder Bay, ON
It is probably the easiest scholarship to receive, and one of the harder ones to earn. For students in high school willing to work hard and pull down top marks, they can now, with the help of Lakehead University earn a tuition free post secondary education.
Thunder Bay's Lakehead University has announced an offer of free tuition for Canadian students coming directly from a recognized Canadian high school with a 95% average. This is a unique entrance scholarship in that no other university in Ontario rewards students with free tuition at the same level for four years.
Lakehead is making the offer in a concerted effort to acquire and retain the best and brightest students from around the region, and across Canada.
Amid rising tuition costs, Lakehead's tuition offer is expected to be a major draw for eligible students. The scholarship is available to Canadian scholars
with a 95% average entering Lakehead University from a recognized Canadian high school curriculum.
Robert Perrier, Manager of Undergraduate Recruitment at Lakehead University explains, "The scholarship is automatically renewable for up to four years at the same level, provided that an 85% average is maintained in each subsequent academic year. If a student's university academic average falls between 80.0% - 84.9%, the student will receive an amended scholarship value at $2,500 per year for each subsequent academic year, for the remaining term of the scholarship."
The scholarship will be automatically awarded - no application is necessary.
"Lakehead University is committed to educating students who are recognized for leadership and independent critical thinking," says John Singer, Lakehead University's Vice President, University Advancement.
"Attracting and retaining the best students with this offer will bring returns to the University community as a whole. These students will help to create an
engaged classroom environment; they will support and challenge their peers inside and outside the classroom, and they will demand the best from their professors," he said.
"Rewarding students for outstanding academic performance is one way for Lakehead to carry out its mission of excellence and innovation in undergraduate and graduate teaching, service, research, and other scholarly activity. It is also a sure-fire way of retaining or bringing the best to Lakehead University - in either the Thunder Bay or Orillia campus. Lakehead is committed to the community and aims to ensure that the region's best and brightest stay, or come to this area," Singer concluded.
