New Aboriginal Alumni Chapter
(
Thunder Bay, Ontario - August, 20, 2009) A new social network will be launched on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, when the
Alumni Association of Lakehead University and the
Office of Aboriginal Initiatives announce the establishment of the
Aboriginal Alumni Chapter of Lakehead University. The announcement will take place during a special gathering in the Lakehead University Faculty Lounge from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Aboriginal Alumni Chapter of Lakehead University is designed to connect Lakehead University graduates with each other, and with Lakehead University. According to Richard Longtin, Manager of Alumni Relations, "The Aboriginal alumni Chapter is a great opportunity for Aboriginal graduates to keep in touch with Lakehead University. The Chapter will be organizing social events, programming, and other opportunities for graduates to stay connected and help in the recruitment of new students."
"Eventually," says Longtin, "an outreach program will be developed to link Aboriginal alumni with others who are interested in pursuing post-secondary educational opportunities and/or give back to their communities."
Lakehead University's Vice-Provost (Aboriginal Initiatives) Beverly Sabourin says she is excited and pleased that this new initiative is being launched, adding that, "Aboriginal graduates are Lakehead's greatest resource. They are allies, mentors, and ambassadors who can encourage and promote higher education."
