Rob Jamieson, HBOR '94, BA '94 (Barrie/Orillia)

Rob graduated from Lakehead University in 1994 with an Honours degree in Outdoor Recreation and a Bachelor of Arts (Geography) and was the recipient of the President’s Award.  While at Lakehead University, Rob spent two years on the Lakehead University Student Union  Board of Directors and was an active member of the Disabled Students Action Committee and the Financial Management Committee. Rob was President of the Lakehead University Student Union in 1993-1994.  During his tenure as LUSU President, Rob worked with the Lakehead University Native Student Association and joined several Canadian Aboriginal delegates in an educational conference in Havana, Cuba. During that year Rob was also a member of the newly established Lakehead University Emergency Response Team. One of the highlights of Rob's time at the school was working for the Handicapped Action Group as a live-in caregiver in residence for a quadriplegic LU Physical Education student. Rob credits this experience with changing his life and the way in which he saw the world.
 
In April 1995, Rob joined the Ontario Provincial Police and was stationed in Dutton, approximately 30 minutes west of London. During this posting Rob had the opportunity to police many communities and also assisted the First Nations officers in policing Chippewa, Munsee, and Oneida First Nation Territories. In January 2003 Rob moved to Barrie and is now married to Lea.  They have two children, Josselyn and Eva.  Rob is currently a Sergeant and is stationed at the Nottawasaga OPP.  In May 2008 and April 2010 Rob returned to Northwestern Ontario for a secondment opportunity to provide policing to the people of Pikangikum First Nation Territory. 
 
In the fall of 2007 Rob was elected as a Board of Director member of the Alumni Association of Lakehead University.  Rob has been advocating for First Nations Alumni representation and was pleased to see the launch of the Aboriginal Alumni Chapter last year. Rob has been an active Board of Director member engaged primarily with activities focused with the Orillia campus of Lakehead University. Rob is currently on the Lakehead University Orillia Campus Advisory committee and is looking forward to engaging many alumni in the Simcoe County area.
