I attended Lakehead University in the fall of 1989 and entered the Outdoor Recreation and Geography program. I lived in residence and had the opportunity to meet many students and in my third year was elected to the LUSU Board of directors spending two years as a Board of Director member. As a member I also participated in the Financial Management Committee and the Disabled Students Action Committee. I really enjoyed participating in the Disabled Students Action Committee as I was also working for the Handicapped Action Group in Thunder Bay and living as a caregiver for a disabled Lakehead University Physical Education student. This experience and educational training from Lakehead University was second to none. In my fourth year I had the honour of being elected LUSU President and had the opportunity to represent the students of Lakehead University on a local, Provincial, National and International level. I also had the opportunity to be an ex-officio member of the Alumni Association of Lakehead University and had an extremely positive relationship with the Lakehead University Native Student Association. The teachings and cultural understandings I learned have remained with me to this day. I graduated from Lakehead University in 1994 and then joined the Ontario Provincial Police in 1995. Having strong family connections in Simcoe County I moved to Barrie in 2003 eventually getting married to Lea and having two girls Josselyn and Eva. In 2006 I attended the grand opening of the Orillia Campus of Lakehead University and observed the same positive energy and close knit family that existed in Thunder Bay. I had been feeling the need to re-engage for some time and decided to contact the Alumni Association and was elected onto the Board of Directors in 2007. Since this time I have had the opportunity to reconnect with many old acquaintances and have attended numerous convocations in Thunder Bay and Orillia. I have also had the opportunity to work with many like minded colleagues who shared a similar positive experience while they attended Lakehead University and now wished to give back. I am currently the Simcoe County representative for the Alumni Board of Directors and am responsible for working with other Lakehead University partners to engage Alumni in Simcoe County in providing leadership and services to the people we represent. I have had the honour of joining the Lakehead University Orillia Campus Advisory Committee as an Alumni representative and recently attended the grand opening of the Orillia campus on September 23. Some of my greatest moments of being involved with the Alumni Association were watching the excitement and enthusiasm of graduates in the presence of their colleagues and families during convocation. I have also enjoyed how our Alumni Association has evolved and is continuing to provide quality services and representation to the students of Lakehead University.
