Shawn Nicholas Hamilton began his post-secondary education at Mohawk College and decided to take his studies to the next level at Lakehead University. In 2007, Shawn graduated with his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering. His learning experience at Lakehead gave him the theory and experience to succeed in his career “The Lakehead experience has provided me the necessary knowledge in engineering and technology to survive the first three to four years in my working life”, says Hamilton. He was impressed by the level of discipline, support and respect that his professors showed him and his classmates.
The small class sizes allowed Shawn to develop strong friendships. This contributed to his positive university experience and his overall enjoyment while living in Thunder Bay. After graduation, “I relocated to Edmonton, Alberta through an International company that manufactures and deals with gas and oil companies for the big refineries and gas plants. The several years of experience has made me realize the potential and many hopes into the future to succeed, he says..

Still in Edmonton, Shawn is working towards obtaining his engineering license, and once he achieves this goal he would like to help other young engineers get into the industry, especially those from his alma mater.

Shawn expresses his gratitude to the many people at Lakehead who have made an impact in his life and career: “I am thankful for Lakehead University, the Department of Chemical Engineering, the research facilities, very skilled professors and the safe environment. I will be forever indebted to the professors in the Chemical Engineering Departments and especially Dr. Xu, Dr. Nirdosh and Dr. Gilbert”.
